Kasyanov is believed to be planning to stand for the Russian Presidency in 2008, and polical analysts say the case appears to be a Kremlin-orchestrated attempt to upset his political ambitions.

The kiosks, which are ubiquitous throughout the Russian capital, appeared after the fall of the Soviet Union in response to consumer demand and sell a wide range of goods, but most specialise in foodstuffs, alcohol and tobacco.
